Non ionic associative thickening agent (A) comprises a non ionic water soluble solid polymer comprising one vinyl addition polymer and at least two side chain polymers bonded together to form non ionic water soluble solid polymer. Non ionic associative thickening agent (A) comprises a non ionic water soluble solid polymer (I) comprising one vinyl addition polymer and at least two side chain polymers (having a molecular weight of 10000) bonded together to form non ionic water soluble solid polymer, where each of the two side chains comprise one terminal chain segment of: D-(L) n-(PO) x(L) n-(EO) y-, D(L) n-(EO) q-(L) n-(PO) x-(L) n- or D-(L) n- or D(L) n-co[(PO) w(EO) z]-(PO)-(L) n). D : 1-24C hydrophobic group; L : linker; EO : oxyethylene group; PO : oxypropylene group; co[(PO) w(EO) z] : copolymer comprising PO and EO; n : 0-1; x : 4-150; q : 1-30 or less than x; w : 3-150; y : 0 to less than x; and z : 1-w. Independent claims are also included for: (1) a composition (A1) comprising (A) and a component (filler, pigment or dye); and (2) a method for thickening (A1) comprising addition of (A) to (A1).
