PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing brass material employing a working method by which a residual stress of a cold drawn material is mitigated while the strength is maintained at or above the equivalent, and to provide the brass material obtained thereby. SOLUTION: The method is characterized by using a base material composed of a brass alloy and twisting and twisting back the cold drawn material, without substantially applying a heat treatment to the material after a cold working process. Desirably, the method is characterized in that a brass alloy cast into a billet is extruded into an extruded material, that the extruded material is made into a drawn material by cold working, and that the drawn material is worked by twisting and twisting-back without substantially applying the heat treatment to the material.
