PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an abnormality detection device for an internal combustion engine capable of detecting not only abnormality of a suction system of the internal combustion engine provided with a plurality of independent cylinder groups, but also an abnormal section. SOLUTION: The abnormality detection device detects abnormality of the internal combustion engine 1 provided with groups RB, LB of a plurality of cylinders 2R, 2L and provided with throttle valves 4R, 4L for each cylinder group, idling rotation speed control valve 15R, 15L and a suction air quantity detection means detecting suction air quantity, and is provided with a determination means performing first abnormality determination determining existence of abnormality of the idling rotation speed control valve and second abnormality determination determining existence of abnormality of the suction air quantity detection means when the internal combustion engine performs idling control. The device not only can determine existence of abnormality of the suction system of the internal combustion engine but also can perform abnormality determination with distinguishing abnormality of the idling rotation speed control valve and the suction air quantity detection means.
