PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the speed of an imaging operation by determining a change of scenes and, depending on the result, determining whether a WB (white balance) coefficient is to be newly calculated. SOLUTION: In an imaging apparatus comprising an imaging device which performs photoelectric conversion with respect to a subject image formed by an imaging optical system, a change is detected between a scene in which the latest WB (white balance) gain is calculated and a current scene, and it is determined whether the WB (white balance) coefficient is to be newly calculated depending on whether the scene is changed, thereby increasing the speed of the imaging operation.
