PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing a supported metallocene catalyst useful for the polymerization of unsaturated ethylenic compound, and integrated with, in particular, a large pore size of silica carrier. SOLUTION: A carrier substance containing a silica particle impregnated with an alumoxane co-catalyst, wherein at least one-half of the co-catalyst is arranged within an internal pore volume of silica, is brought into contact with a dispersion of a metallocene catalyst in an aromatic solvent, in this method for preparing the silica supported metallocene catalyst of the present invention. The dispersion and the carrier are mixed at about 10°C or less of temperature, for a period enough for supporting the reactive metallocene onto the alumoxane-impregnated silica particle to be impregnated in its inside. The supported catalyst is recovered from the aromatic solvent, and is washed with an aromatic hydrocarbon, and with paraffinic hydrocarbon solvent continuously followed thereto, at about 10°C or less of temperature.
