PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorber including a damping force regulating mechanism having a great damping force reducing effect enough to secure stable damping force characteristics as desired.SOLUTION: The shock absorber includes a regulating valve member 50 mounted between a valve seat member 21 and a valve member 22 and supported by the valve member, the valve member having a valve seat part 22a formed to be opposed to the valve seat member at its outside, the regulating valve member 50 having a flexible plate-like valve element 51 arranged to abut on the valve seat member and the valve seat part and formed with a communication path 52 opening to the valve seat member at its inside, the plate-like valve element being adapted to separate from the valve seat part and the valve seat member in sequence as the stroke of the valve member increases in the direction where the plate-like valve element separates from the valve seat member. As a result, a flow path communicates via the communication path and a first clearance between the plate-like valve element and the valve seat part and the flow path also communicates via a second clearance between the plate-like valve element and the valve seat member, thus increasing the opening area of the flow path.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
