摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction material for use in a disc brake pad and a brake shoe of an automobile brake system, the friction material having sufficient and stable braking force and sufficient mechanical strength.SOLUTION: The friction material containing no metal single body and alloy is provided that contains: 10-30 vol.% of a thermosetting resin as a binder with respect to the total amount of the friction material; and as an inorganic filler 20-30 vol% of the total of plate-like titanate with an average particle size of 10-50 μm and hydrous magnesium silicate with respect to the total amount of the friction material, and that has a volume ratio of the titanate and the hydrous magnesium silicate of 12:1 to 5:1. It is preferred that an average particle size of the plate-like titanate is 20-40 μm and the plate-like titanate is hexapotassium titanate.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
