Certain disclosed embodiments of the present invention concern anodes for use in an electric energy storage device, such as electric current producing cells, rechargeable batteries, capacitors, etc., containing potassium ions as the charge compensating ions in the electrodes and/or electrolyte. Certain disclosed embodiments concern carbon electrodes comprising an electroactive carbon, an electrically conductive carbon filler and a non-electroactive binder component.
