PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite resin material which comprises a thermoplastic resin composition containing polyphenylene oxide and a layered clay mineral and wherein the layered clay mineral is satisfactorily uniformly dispersed in the thermoplastic resin composition even in the case of kneading at a high temperature and thus properties such as mechanical strength and durability are sufficiently improved, and a method for producing the composite resin material. SOLUTION: The composite resin material comprises a thermoplastic resin composition containing polyphenylene oxide (exclusive of a thermoplastic resin composition containing a polyester), a layered clay mineral dispersed in the thermoplastic resin composition and organomodified with an organomodifier, and a phosphite ester dispersed in the thermoplastic resin composition and forming a chemical bond between the layered clay mineral.
