PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of storing radioactive waste in a disposal container, capable of stably exhibiting a nuclear species confinement function over a long period of time. SOLUTION: In the method of storing the radioactive wastes in the disposal container 1 storing radioactive wastes in a rectangular shielding body 5 in the container body 2 of the disposal container 1, comprising a container lid 3 and the container body 2 sealed by the container lid 3, after the radioactive wastes are stored in the rectangular shield body 5, a compression compacting material, which is a compression compact of bentonite at a high-pressure, is filled into a space part, formed among the inner surface of the rectangular shielding body 5 and the radioactive wastes and among the radioactive wastes.
