PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recording device and an ink jet recording method suppressing a harmful influence on an image without reducing recording speed even when a recording head is inclined. SOLUTION: The ink jet recording device comprising the recording head having nozzle groups each with a plurality of ink discharging nozzles arranged along the conveyed direction of a recording medium, allows the recording head to scan the same recording area of the recording medium a plurality of times to record the image on the same recording area by the different nozzle groups, wherein a data generating means is provided for generating recording data of each scan of the plurality of times using mask patterns corresponding to the nozzle groups, and the thinning-out rate of the mask pattern corresponding to the nozzle group upstream in the conveyed direction of the recording medium differs from the thinning-out rate of the mask pattern corresponding to the nozzle group upstream in the conveyed direction of the recording medium.
