Provided is a sewing machine that facilitates the positioning of a pattern which is to be sewn onto a sewing target and a decorative component which is to be disposed on the sewing target. Decorative components (16) are held in hole parts which have been formed in a holding body by a cutting device on the basis of formation data, and the decorative components are attached to a transfer sheet (20) in a state where the decorative components and the transfer sheet are mutually positioned. The sewing machine forms, on the basis of embroidery data, an embroidery pattern (15) on a piece of cloth (73). The sewing machine forms, on the basis of reference data, an optical mark (60) on the piece of cloth (73) by using a projection mechanism. A user moves the transfer sheet (20) and places decorative components (16A, 16B) at the marked locations of both end parts (60A, 60B) of the mark (60). Due to this configuration, the decorative components (16) held on the transfer sheet (20) can each be correctly placed at placement locations corresponding to the sewn locations of the embroidery pattern (15). |
