PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a protection system of a railroad vehicle traction system including an electric motor and a power supply circuit.SOLUTION: A protection system of a railroad vehicle traction system includes a mechanically coupling device 26 between a first member 30 and a second member 32 of a transmission line 6; and control means 28. The first member is connected to an output shaft 14 of the electric motor 8, and the second member is connected to an input shaft 16 of an axle 4 of a railroad vehicle. The coupling device 26 can take an engaging or disengaging state. The control means applies a disengagement signal to the coupling device to switch that from the engaging state to the disengaging state, when the failure of the power supply circuit 10 and/or the electric motor is detected.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
