PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biaxially oriented polyester film excellent in light shielding properties, concealing properties, flame retardancy and continuous productivity and to provide a method for producing the same.SOLUTION: There is provided a biaxially oriented polyester film satisfying the following (1) to (5). (1) The film contains carbon black particles in a polyester resin composition constituting a film and the content of the carbon black particles is 0.01 to 10 wt.%. (2) The film substantially contains no dispersant in a polyester resin composition constituting a film. (3) The film contains a phosphorus element in a polyester resin composition constituting a film and the content of the phosphorus element is 0.01 to 5 wt.%. (4) The optical density unevenness is 0.10% or more and 50% or less. (5) The flame retardancy is one of VTM-0 and VTM-1.SELECTED DRAWING: None
