PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting element capable of achieving a high light emission efficiency and performing high color reproducibility under application to a display or the like even when a light emission material having a relatively low light absorption efficiency is used, and a display and a luminaire that use the light emission element.SOLUTION: A light emitting element includes an exciting light source for emitting primary light, a light emission layer for absorbing the primary light and emitting secondary light, and a metallic particle aggregate layer. The metallic particle aggregate layer is obtained by thirty or more metallic particles that are two-dimensionally arranged to be spaced from one another. The average particle diameter of the metallic particles ranges from 200 to 1600 nm, the average height ranges from 55 to 500 nm, the aspect ratio defined by the ratio of the average particle diameter to the average height ranges from 1 to 8, and the average distance between adjacent metallic particles ranges from 1 to 150 nm. Mixture light of a part of the primary light and at least a part of the secondary light is emitted from the light emitting element.
