PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper container having a locking mechanism in which an engagement piece of a lid is easily inserted in an engagement inserting part of a box body, an adhesive-applied portion is hardly carelessly peeled before unsealing, and a tab piece or the engagement piece is hardly broken during the unsealing or during the use thereafter. SOLUTION: In the paper container, a lid for covering a top opening of a box body is hinge-connected with a back side plate of the box body, the tab piece is protruded from a front plate of the lid via a base end; an engagement piece is formed in a vicinity of the base end of the tab piece by a projecting notch line; and an engagement inserting part in which the engagement piece can be inserted in a lid closed state is formed in a front plate of the box body. An adhesive-applied part is provided, which sticks a lower portion of the engagement inserting part of the box body to the tab piece below the engagement piece of the front plate of the lid; and a half-cut line discontinuous from an edge of the tab piece is cut in an area above the adhesive-applied part in the tab piece and below the engagement piece.
