PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-yield sealing method for sealing a ceramic filter whereby a ceramic filer that satisfies a condition with respect to its filtration precision can be obtained without carrying out an additional step of forming a glass seal again on a calcined ceramic filter, which method is employed in preparing a ceramic filter. SOLUTION: The method for sealing a ceramic filter 50 comprises steps of applying a slurry 11 for an undercoat application comprising aggregate as its main component having a diameter smaller than an average pore diameter of a porous ceramic that constitutes a substrate 12 onto the face of the substrate 12 to be sealed inclusive of its end face and subsequently applying thereto a slurry 16 for forming a glass seal.
