PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a closure shock absorbing device for a sliding door capable of preventing the sliding door from being kept not fully closed without contact with the door tip to its door jamb at a totally closed position thereby assuring a reliable and calm operation when closing the sliding door. SOLUTION: A guide groove comprising a horizontal groove, a curved or slanted groove connected to the horizontal groove, and a vertical groove is formed within a casing installed to a top rail of the sliding door or to a head of the sliding door; guide pins attached to two positions of a cam plate having first and second ratchets above are inserted to the guide groove; they are arranged in such a manner that the cam plate can be guided by the guide groove and tilted or subjected to a horizontal linear motion; and a spring damper mechanism capable of always pulling the cam plate to a horizontal groove at an end side underneath the cam plate is provided. At a head jamb side or the sliding door side, a closing and shock absorbing device for the sliding door is provided. This device is equipped with a trigger having a projection for making two guide pins of the cam plate being kept always to a horizontal state in contact with the first ratchet of the cam plate. Further, a cushioning member capable of preventing any generation of a clicking sound is installed at least to a part of a periphery of a guide groove which is brought into contact with a guide pin when the guide pin of the cam plate is inverted.
