PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a copolymer comprising an aromatic vinyl compound and ethylene. SOLUTION: The copolymer comprises an aromatic vinyl compound containing a sulfur atom and ethylene. Also disclosed is a specific copolymer in which the aromatic vinyl compound containing a sulfur atom is a vinylthiophene compound represented by formula (1) or formula (2), wherein R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, and R<SP>3</SP>are each a hydrogen atom, a 1-20C alkyl group, a 6-20C aryl group, or a 7-20C aralkyl group; and in R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, and R<SP>3</SP>, adjoining groups may be combined with each other to form a ring.
