NONSTOICHIOMETRIC TETRAGONAL COPPER ALKALINE EARTH SILICATE PHOSPHOR AND ITS MANUFACTURING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a more stable phosphor with a more rigid surrounding of activator ions in a silicate matrix, and to provide a silicate phosphor showing stability at elevated temperatures and a lower sensitivity to humidity.

SOLUTION: A nonstoichiometric luminescent substance for a light-emitting element has a tetragonal crystal structure and has a larger amount of silicon in its crystal lattice compared to that in the crystal lattice of a silicate phosphor having a stoichiometric crystal structure. The luminescent substance contains divalent copper within the matrix and contains europium as an activator.
