An image data compression preprocessing method, an image data compression method using the same, and an image data compression system are provided to compress video data with reference to background model data or/and an estimated motion dimension value, thereby improving video compression efficiency in environment in which a background and motion exists. Video data is received(S110). Background model data for the video data is produced(S120). Based on the video data and the background model data, a moving object domain is determined(S130). A motion dimension value of the moving object domain is estimated(S140). The video data is compressed with reference to at least one of the background model data or the estimated motion dimension value(S150).
