PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet printer and a printing method, which make dot omission inconspicuous and achieve improvement of printing quality.SOLUTION: An ink jet printer comprises: a print head which includes a plurality of nozzles discharging ink; a nozzle location identification unit which identifies the position of a first nozzle failing to discharge ink from among the nozzles; and a printing control unit which causes the nozzles to discharge ink and prints dots in a plurality of sizes. The printing control unit enlarges the dot size printed by a second nozzle adjacent to the first nozzle identified by the nozzle location identification unit as compared with the dot size defined by the image data, and reduces the dot size printed by a third nozzle adjacent to the second nozzle other than the first nozzle to be smaller than the changed dot size printed by the second nozzle. |
