A heat interface unit communication system 12 communicates an indication of heat consumption and at least one additional physical characteristic of a heat interface unit or hydraulic interface unit (HIU) 10 using the M-Bus or Meter-Bus protocol. The additional physical characteristic may be pressure, temperature, force, mass flow, flow rate, power, energy, distance, voltage or current, and an indication relating to the physical characteristic may also be communicated. Allowable values or units of the physical characteristic, or a user message may also be communicated. The additional physical characteristic may be communicated to a computer 20 or billing system 18, and displayed on a display 22. The invention is particularly suitable for use with centralised boiler plants in blocks of flats or apartments. |
