PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tissue antiseptic composition.SOLUTION: A tissue antiseptic composition comprises: an antimicrobial agent selected from the group consisting of iodine (I), an iodophor, and a combination thereof, where the antimicrobial agent is present in a sufficient concentration to provide an available iodine concentration of 0.1 wt.% to 2 wt.%; a monosaccharide, a sugar alcohol, or a combination of a monosaccharide and a sugar alcohol, where the sugar alcohol is selected from among xylitol, mannitol and a combination thereof; a hydroxycarboxylic acid buffer in an amount greater than 2.5 wt.%; and a vehicle that is a liquid at 23°C. The tissue antiseptic composition is a liquid at 23°C. |
