PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a capacitor discharge type ignition device for an internal combustion engine, preventing malfunction of a thyristor for discharge without sacrificing ignition performance in a high-speed rotation area of an engine so as to improve reliability. SOLUTION: A DC-DC converter is used as a power source part charging a capacitor for ignition. An ignition position signal Vip is generated when an ignition position calculated by a microprocessor is detected. When the ignition position signal is generated, the thyristor for discharge is turned on to perform an ignition action. A pressure rising action stop command signal Va is generated at timing earlier than timing ti where the ignition position signal Vip is generated by a preset preceding time Tp, and the pressure rising action stop command signal Va is extinguished at timing extinguishing the ignition position signal Vip. By stopping the pressure rising action of the DC-DC converter while the pressure rising action stop command signal Va is generated, generation of the ignition position signal Vip is not generated while a charge current Ivc is passing through the capacitor for ignition.
