PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a linear motor in which forced cooling can be performed by cooling medium, and the end of each cooling pipe can be sealed hermetically even if a plurality of cooling pipes have a dimensional variation or vibration or thermal elongation/contraction takes place. SOLUTION: The linear motor comprises a shaft member 2 consisting of permanent magnets where N poles and S poles are arranged alternately, and a coil unit 3 where a plurality of coils 6 surrounding the shaft member 2 are arranged in the axial direction. The coil unit 3 has a tubular coil case 7 containing the plurality of coils 6, caps 8 and 9 provided at the opposite ends of the coil case 7, and a plurality of independent cooling pipes 17 provided on the outer circumferential portion of the coil case 7 and feeding cooling medium, respectively. Opposite ends of each cooling pipe 17 are fitted in the cooling pipe fitting holes 24 and 25 provided in the caps 8 and 9. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
