An object detection method which is characterized by comprising: a camera that is disposed on a mobile unit; a GPS that acquires image position information, which is information on the position where an image was captured by the camera; a first storage unit that stores the image and the image position information; a second storage unit that stores, as information on an object to be detected, an object image characteristic quantity, which is the image characteristic quantity of the object to be detected, and installation position information; an image selection unit that selects the image as a selection image on the basis of the image position information and the installation position information and determines a specified region in the selection image as a detection region; a detection unit that performs object detection by determining the presence or absence of the object to be detected in the detection region using the degree of similarity between the image characteristic quantity extracted from the detection region and the object image characteristic quantity; and an output unit that gives a notification to a user if it is determined that there is no object to be detected. |
