PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To excellently generate corner cuts in a welting machine for welting to form a diagonal opening. SOLUTION: The welting machine includes: corner cutter mechanisms 100A, 100B for generating the corner cuts between the ends of two straight stitches and the end of a straight cut; and a control means 80 for performing control to vary the respective fabric feeding end positions of the two straight stitches, and also generating the diagonal corner cuts where the corner cuts are generated at the side of the straight cut from the ends of the respective straight stitches. The corner cutter mechanisms are provided corresponding to both the ends of the straight cut, and include: a plurality of corner cutters 101-104 for generating a plurality of kinds of corner cuts different in cut length; selection mechanisms 120 for selecting the corner cutters; and vertical movement mechanisms 130 for vertically moving the corner cutters. The control means performs control to select the corner cutter with the long cut length to be on an outer side when an inputted deviation exceeds a prescribed value. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
