摘要 Intended is to provide techniques for enabling an IPS type liquid crystal display device to satisfy a color shift, a corner irregularity and a front contrast at the same time. The IPS type liquid crystal display device comprises a liquid crystal cell (11), a first polarizing plate (10) disposed on the viewing side of the liquid crystal cell, and a second polarizing plate (12) disposed on the back light source side of the liquid crystal cell. The second polarizing plate (12) includes a polarizing element (8), a first polarizing plate protecting film (T-3) disposed on the liquid crystal cell side of the polarizing element, and a second polarizing plate protecting film (T-4) disposed on the back light source side. The second polarizing plate protecting film (T-4) is a cellulose ester film having a thickness of 20 mum to 50 mum, and has Ro and Rt satisfying 0 nm <= Ro <= 2 nm, and-5 nm <= Rt <= 5 nm. Moreover, the second polarizing plate protecting film (T-4) is characterized by having a temperature fluctuation DeltaRt(t) satisfying 0 nm <= DeltaRt(t) <= 7 nm and a humidity fluctuation DeltaRt(h) satisfying 0 nm <= DeltaRt(h) <= 20 nm.
