A liquid crystal aligning agent is provided to reduce residual DC voltage, to form a liquid crystal alignment film with excellent leakage property of voltage and to obtain a liquid crystal display device with high definition and no degradation of display performance. A liquid crystal aligning agent contains more than polymers. The polymers are selected from the group consisting of polyamic acids obtained by reacting tetracarboxylic dianhydride and diamine represented by chemical formula, and polyimide obtained by dehydrating and opening the polyamic acids. In chemical formula 1, R is hydrogen atom or monovalent organic group. The tetracarboxylic dianhydride comprises one kind or more selected from the group consisting of cycloaliphatic tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride and pyromellitic acid dianhydride.
