A method for monitoring patient physiological data, comprises: - a wireless patient monitoring device 5 with a first sensor adapted for retrieving patient physiological data and a second sensor (e.g. optical sensor 54 such as a camera) for retrieving patient biometric information, - a data reception device adapted to communicate with the wireless patient monitoring device 5 using a wireless communication protocol to send patient physiological data and patient biometric information from the wireless patient monitoring device to the data reception device, - the data reception device comprising a processor for processing patient physiological data received from the wireless patient monitoring device and adapted to process said patient biometric information to obtain a patient identity. The optical sensor 54 maybe adapted to obtain an image of the fingerprints, retina, blood vessels, thermal picture or other visually readable biomarkers of a patient. The optical sensor may also be adapted to obtain an image of a barcode or other type of tag attached to a patient. The wireless patient monitoring device 5 may have a visual identification 51 such as a barcode which can be read by an optical sensor (e.g. a camera on the reception device) |
