PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance startability by shortening a start time in an internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: A low-pressure feed pump 63 is mounted on a fuel tank 62. A high-pressure fuel pump 44 is connected through a low-pressure fuel supply pipe 64. The high-pressure fuel pump 44 is connected to a delivery pipe 42 through the high-pressure fuel supply pipe 43. An injector 41 for jetting a high-pressure fuel into a combustion chamber 18 is connected to the delivery pipe 42. The high-pressure fuel pump 44 is formed to be driven by the drive cam 112 of an intake camshaft 23 and so set that the position of a crank when a high-pressure fuel injection is started by the injector 41, and the position of the crank when the force-feeding of fuel is terminated by the high-pressure fuel pump 44 generally match with each other.
