PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive, compact fixing device having no separation pawl or the like, having excellent durability, reliably preventing the winding of sheet material, realizing high fixing speed, preventing the deterioration of fixing properties and restraining speed variation in a fixing nip, and to provide an image forming apparatus preventing irregularities in an image from occurring and capable of forming a high-quality color image at high speed and at low cost. SOLUTION: This fixing device is constituted of: a fixing belt 3 turning in a state where it is stretched and laid on a fixing belt supporting roller 1 rotatably supported and generating heat and a fixed member for fixing 2 fixed in a non-rotation state; a pressure roller 4 held by a fixed member 2b through the belt 3 and forming a fixing nip part N which can be widened by pressing a drawn-shaped heat resistant elastic member 2a in a direction where sheet material S goes away and held rotatably; and a curvature separation part forming means 5 for forming the diameter of a circular arc consisting of a curvature which is equal to or greater than a curvature to prevent the winding of the separated sheet material S.
