PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display panel of an in-plane switching system with improved picture quality while suppressing afterimage. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal panel 10 is equipped with a liquid crystal layer 11, a drive substrate 12 having an electrode to apply a lateral electric field onto the liquid crystal layer 11, and a counter substrate 13 opposing to the drive substrate 12 through the liquid crystal layer 11. A first orientation layer 23 created by a rubbing method is formed on the surface of the drive substrate 12, the surface being in contact with the liquid crystal layer 11, and a second orientation layer 35 created by a particle beam irradiation method is formed on the surface of the counter substrate 13, the surface being in contact with the liquid crystal layer 11.
