PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a laser-stable material, and an improved evaluating method of enabling specification of a laser-stable material, and enabling mutual discrimination or distinction related to the laser stability between an especially laser-stable material sample and a laser-stable material sample. SOLUTION: In this method of specifying or evaluating the laser stability of an optical material in order to manufacture an optical element for transmitting high-energy radiation, the optical material is preliminarily irradiated, and induction improper fluorescence of the optical material is measured. The method further comprises following processes: (a) The optical material is preliminarily irradiated. (b) Immediately after the completion of the preliminary irradiation and in at least 10 minutes after the completion, induction fluorescence is excited in the optical material by light with a wavelength of 350-700 nm. (c) The intensity of the induction fluorescence with one or more wavelengths of 550-810 nm is measured. (d) The intensity of the induction fluorescence with one or more wavelengths of 550-810 nm is quantitatively evaluated. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
