A functional gelled separator, a method for preparing the functional gelled separator, and a lithium secondary battery containing the functional gelled separator are provided to improve cycle characteristics and high rate characteristics and to prevent the leakage of solution. A functional gelled separator comprises a supporting film; and a porous membrane coated on the one or both surfaces of the supporting film, wherein the porous membrane comprises a polymer capable of being gelled by an electrolyte solution and a functional inorganic compound for forming a conductive solid electrolyte interface on the surface of an electrode during charge/discharge. Preferably the functional inorganic compound comprises at least one selected from AgX, MgX2, SnX2, SrX2, CoX2, NiX2, AlX3, TiX4 and VX4, wherein X is F, Cl, Br or I. |
