PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a defect monitoring device which can be suitably employed in a large-scale battery production line and detects defect with a simple configuration. SOLUTION: The defect monitoring device 100 for monitoring a defect of a shelf 20 with a plurality of boxes 10 arranged therein like a matrix includes a controller 50, a plurality of first sensing lines 30 wired in a row direction of the matrix, and a plurality of second sensing lines 40 wired in a column direction of the matrix. The plurality of first sensing lines 30 and the plurality of second sensing lines 40 are wired so that at least one first sensing line and one second sensing line pass through each of boxes 10 to be monitored. The controller 50 detects a box 10A which a sensing line 30A sensing a defect out of the plurality of first sensing lines 30 and a sensing line 40A sensing a defect out of the plurality of second sensing lines 30 pass through, as a defective box.
