PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a conditioner which improves the air permeability, water retentivity, easiness of cultivation, etc., of agricultural or horticultural soil by selecting a fibrous structure made from a mixture comprising a biodegradable synthetic fiber, a highly water-absorbing fiber, and a natural fiber and/or a regenerated fiber in a specified ratio and having a specified maximum edge length, a specified bulk density, and a specified water retentivity. SOLUTION: There is provided a structure made from a mixture comprising at least 30 wt.% biodegradable synthetic fiber, 5-40 wt.% highly water-absorbing fiber, and at most 65 wt.% natural fiber and/or regenerated fiber and having a maximum edge length of at most 15 mm, a bulk density of at least 0.005 g/cc, and a water retentivity of at least 10 g/g. The structure may take the shape of a box, a flat surface, a rod, a hemisphere, or the like, though it is more desirable that at least one pair of two opposite edges of the structure have cut surfaces in each of which part of the biodegradable synthetic fiber fuses with other fibers. It is desirable that the fibers which form the structure have each a degree of orientation of at least 40% in the direction of a pair of opposite fusion-(pressure-) bonded edges. |
