PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a face detection method, face detection apparatus, and program enabling reduction of undetected faces. SOLUTION: When searching the facial area in an image to detect the position and size of the facial area, the face searching in area other than the area, where the face were detected is carried out by a step (ST101) of detecting face by searching for facial components in the image for processing, and a step (ST104) of template matching, by using a candidate area including the face detected by the previous step as a template.
