The invention relates to turning gear system for a turbine. The system comprises a pinion configured and arranged to engage a turning gear so as to turn a shaft of the turbine and further includes a higher pressure oil system having a hydraulic motor and a lower pressure oil system having a hydraulic pump coupled to the hydraulic motor so as to enable a generation of a flow rate using the high pressure oil system as a motive force. A pressure control system for controlling a pressure of the flow rate to enable engagement of the pinion during reverse turning operation is provided. |
