Purification of aqueous waste liquor (I) containing silicon (Si) from chip production comprises: (a) preparing (I); (b) adding metal salt(s) to pH 2.5-3.5; (c) then adding aqueous caustic alkali solution to pH 6.5-7.5; and (d) removing the Si from (I).
