PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a specimen container having a recording capacity sufficient to record the name, date of birth, blood type and another necessary specimen discrimination data of an examinee, capable of considering the protection of individual data and capable of enhancing the inspection reliability of a specimen, and a recording method of the specimen discrimination data. SOLUTION: The specimen container 1 has a recording layer 3 on which the specimen discrimination data 11 for discriminating the housed specimen is recorded and is characterized in that the recording layer 3 contains an optical writable photochromic material. In the recording method of the specimen discrimination data 11, the specimen container 1 having the recording layer 3 containing the optical writable photochromic material is prepared and the specimen discrimination data 11 for discriminating the specimen housed in the specimen container 1 is recorded on the recording layer 3 by a laser beam.
