The invention relates to a strain of Scenedesmus opoliensis and to a process for cultivating the same in order to obtain algal oil. The Scenedesmus opoliensis strain AICB 141, with the deposit number CCPA 276/24 filed with the Culture Collection of Algae and Protozoa, accumulates, in a short time, high quantities of lipids containing residues of fatty acids in a quantity adequated for the its conversion into biodiesel, diesel and aircraft fuel. According to the invention, the process consists in preparing a BBM modified culture medium, inoculating the same with an algae suspension medium, cultivating the micro-algae for 10...12 days at a temperature of 28...30°C, electro-flocculating the suspension, filtering the bio-mass after the cultivation period, ultrasonically extracting the oil, evaporating the solvent and recovering the algal oil with high efficiencies, the algal oil having a density of 0.916...0.930 g/cmat 20°C, an acidity index of 0.31 mg KOH/g, a saponification index of 184...196 mg KOH/100 g. |
