PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide image display light with high visibility.SOLUTION: An image display device comprises: a light source 231; an image display element 240 modulating light from the light source 231 to generate image display light; a dimming element 250 dimming the light from the light source 231; and a control device 50. The control device 50 comprises: a first drive unit 541 outputting a signal for driving the light source 231; a second drive unit 542 outputting a signal for driving the dimming element 250; a reception unit 510 receiving an input signal for adjusting a luminance of the image display light; and a determination unit that determines the operations of the first drive unit 541 and the second drive unit 542 so that, when a luminance value is equal to or greater than a prescribed threshold, a dimming degree by the dimming element 250 is set to be a first dimming amount and the light from the light source 231 has an emission intensity corresponding to the luminance value, and so that, when the luminance value is smaller than the prescribed threshold, the emission intensity of the light source 231 is kept constant and the dimming degree by the dimming element 250 is set to be a second dimming amount larger than the first dimming amount. |
