PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a box annealing furnace capable of stably removing oxygen in furnace gas with certainty and also to provide a manufacturing technique of a cold-rolled and annealed metal sheet having an oxide film controlled to an extent causing practically no problem by using the above box annealing furnace. SOLUTION: In this furnace, a coil 3 as a material to be annealed is set and covered with an inner cover 2 and an outer cover 1 is put on the outside of the inner cover, and the coil 3 is annealed by means of a prescribed heat pattern by using a heat source provided in the space between both covers. Moreover a deoxidizing material (spongy deoxidizing metal) 5, prepared by forming a metal having high affinity for oxygen into spongy state, is disposed within the inner cover 2. This spongy deoxidizing metal 5 is disposed before annealing, and annealing is started in this state.
