PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and safely obtain a silylated dihalomethyl-containing compound useful as a raw material for intermediates for the synthesis e.g. of medicines and agrochemicals by reacting a trihalomethyl-containing compound with a halogenated silane in the presence of manganese. SOLUTION: This silylated dihalomethyl-containing compound is obtained by reacting (A) a trihalomethyl-containing compound (e.g. a haloform, such as iodoform) with (B) a halogenated silane (e.g. a halogenated trialkylsilane, such as chlorotrimethylsilane) in the presence of manganese (e.g. metallic manganese), at e.g. 0 deg.C to room temperature. It is preferable that the reaction is conducted in (D) an ether- or amide-based solvent and in the coexistence of (E) an alkali metal halide, such as sodium iodide.
