The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for object division using an area-based graph cut. According to the present invention, the apparatus for object division segmentation using a graph cut includes: a grouping unit grouping pixels of an area of interest, extracted from an original image which is divided into the area of interest and a background area; and a dividing unit calculating a weighting in each region formed with the pixels grouped by the grouping unit, and dividing the original image into the area of interest and the background area by using the calculated weighting.
