<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which has no image defect such as image deletion due to a discharge product and causes little wear of a photoreceptor. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with: an image carrier; a charging means; an exposing means which forms an electrostatic latent image on the image carrier; a developing means which supplies a developer to the electrostatic latent image formed on the image carrier to visualize the image; a transfer means which transfers the visualized developer image onto a transfer material; and one or more charging assisting means on which a DC voltage is applied with respect to the image carrier after transferring the image: and the apparatus uses a cleanerless system to recover the developer by the above developing device, the developer not transferred by the transfer means but remaining on the surface of the image carrier. In this apparatus, at least one charge assisting means is a brush member on which a DC voltage is applied.
