PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress unevenness in images which occurs by an impact position shift in a recording device. SOLUTION: This recording device has a recording head which forms images on a recording medium, a carriage which holds the recording head and can be scanned in a main scanning direction, and a carrying means which carries the recording medium in a subsidiary scanning direction. In a carriage controlling method which is used for the recording device, the starting position for each scanning by the carriage is changed in response to a multi-path number by which recording is performed by being overlapped with a mechanism oscillation frequency of the recording device main body by a plurality of times.
