<p>The device has a data extraction unit for coupling an attribute identifier and attribute values of data packets or data stream extracts. A comparing unit compares the identifier against an adjusted search pattern. The search samples are allocated to the identifier. An allocation unit is used for assigning the attribute value of the attribute identifier on the basis of the allocation supplied by the comparing unit to an input interface. An evaluation unit provides a decision over the forwarding of the data packet or stream to a certain goal on the basis of the data lying on the interface.</p>
